Job Title:  Heritage Interpreter

Location:  Balfour Ferry Landing in the restored Anscomb Wheelhouse

Hours: 30 per week, must work weekends

Wage: negotiable

Responsibilities:  Meeting tourists and giving information on local area heritage and historic sites of interest.

This is a Canada Summer Jobs-funded position and must be awarded to a full-time student returning to full-time studies in the Fall.

Project:                               Gateway Monuments to Balfour

Project Description:          In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Balfour & District Business & Historic Association shall erect two roadside gateway monuments, welcoming all entering visitors to “Balfour est. 1889”, from the east and west. Sites are being selected in the upcoming weeks.

Bid Documents:                 Drawings & Specifications may be obtained from – Attention Janice Cooper.

Instruction to Bidders:     Pricing to be provided ‘As per Plans & Specifications’. Scheduling and completion of contracts shall be based upon completion of qualifying grant funding currently being sought by the Canada 150 Committee.  All questions and concerns with regards to the project specifications & requirements shall be made to The BDBHA    Coordinator, Janice Cooper, or the Chair, Truus Zelonka 250-229-2113.

Award of Contract:           Bids accepted shall be of a closed nature.  Upon review and consultation by the board, successful bidders shall be notified of award    Successful bidders shall be found to be cost effective in their submission- balanced with high qualities of communication, craftsmanship, discipline and reliability.

Project Completion:          Project Scheduling will be issued upon confirmation of successful          candidates and confirmation of their lead times required.  Preliminary scheduling foresee the following completion dates;

                                                            Erection of Concrete Structures – 30 June

Application of Stucco Finishes – 23 July

Installation of Artwork – 18 August


Bids may not be modified, withdrawn or cancelled by the bidder after acceptance by BDBHA and the Canada 150 Committee. All bid awards are dependent upon grant funding coming through.
