“A wide range of choices” is an understatement for our little area:

The Nelson/Balfour area public school system is School District #8  (250-352-6681).

Redfish Elementary School  (250) 229-4224only five miles from the heart of Balfour, offers Kindergarten to Grade 5.

For grades 6 and up, students take the school bus to Nelson. Trafalgar Middle School is grades 6-8, and L.V. Rogers High School is grades 9-12.

We’re also proud to have the innovative Waldorf School (250-352-6919), and Wildflower Alternative program (250-354-4311)

Selkirk College (888-953-1133) has a campus in Nelson and offers arts education via the well-known Kootenay School of the Arts,  as well as technical training, including Digital Media, Music & Info Technology, Hospitality and Tourism, and Industry and Trades.

In nearby Castlegar (one hour from Balfour), Selkirk College offers Business and Aviation, Health and Human Services, Renewable Resources, University Arts and Sciences, and International Education.

The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences, one of Nelson’s unique institutions,  imparts traditional Chinese medicine expertise. Call 250-352-5887 for information.

Computer and business classes are taught at the Academy of Learning Computer and Business Career College.

Nelson University Center offers Athabasca University programs onsite in Nelson. The courses are transferable to any Canadian university (including NUC’s future bachelor’s degree program), as well as to many universities in the U.S.
